It's worth the drive to nearby Stratford to pay this rustic steakhouse a visit. Despite the freeway-side location, C&H draws raves for its delicious grade-A steaks, surprisingly extensive wine list, and a few premium cigars. The restaurant, designed to recollect a traditional super club with its hunting lodge-inspired decor, belongs to the H.D. Pappas family of restaurants. The well-dressed wait staff treats each table like it is the only one in the room, taking time to make recommendations and discuss preparation techniques - a word to the wise, if your server suggests the ribs, do yourself a favor and order a rack or two. In essence, you're going to enjoy this big city steakhouse without having to deal with the city at all, and the reasonable prices will reflect it.

The secret is out: one of the best seafooders in West Houston is the intrepid Good Co. Seafood, located near Gessner. Owners Jim and Levi Goode have created an upscale, family-friendly setting where the walls are littered with all things nautical, from old rusty boat propellers and anchors to buoys and a Gulf-themed black and white photographs. The impressive features traditional Gulf favorites with an international lilt, including spicy crawfish bisque, oven-roasted oysters, and Chilean sea bass. Regulars rave about the Goode ceviche, Campechana de Mariscos, served in a sundae-style glass with your choice of shrimp, crab, or crawfish. Reservations are suggested.
