Known for its wide range of Native American art, this museum also contains the only major Asian art collection in the Rocky Mountains. Founded in 1893, this seven-story museum is wrapped by a thin 28-sided wall faced with one million sparkling tiles designed by Gio Ponti of Italy and James Sudler Associates of Denver. The seventh floor houses the museum's expanding collection of Western and regional works. Included are Charles Russell's painting In the Enemy's Country, Frederic Remington's bronze The Cheyenne, plus 19th-century photography and works by Georgia O'Keeffe.
U.S. Mint
320 W. Colfax Ave • Denver, CO 80204 • 303.405.4755 • 800.872.6468
There are four mints in the United States, but the Denver Mint is one of only two (the other is the Philadelphia Mint) where we can actually see the process of turning lumps of metal into shiny coins. The Denver location is responsible for producing all coins for public circulation. The Denver Mint stamps billions of coins each year, and each has a small D on it.
Walk-in mint tours had been halted indefinitely for security reasons; and individuals were required to arrange tours at least 3 weeks in advance with their congressional representatives. It is hoped that walk-in visitors will be allowed in the future; call or check www.usmint.gov for up-to-date information.
